Did you know that chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in Florida? The Florida Department of Health in Hamilton County (DOH-Hamilton) is working diligently to reduce death and disability due to chronic diseases.
DOH-Hamilton keeps our community healthy by:
- Increasing access to and use of attractive and safe locations for physical activity
- Increasing healthy food choices in restaurants, grocery stores, work sites, and schools
- Increasing farmers markets and community gardens to provide affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables for Floridians
- Increasing availability and reimbursement of chronic disease preventative health services across health systems
- Providing data and statistics regarding our community health efforts in Hamilton County
