STATEMENT FROM HEALTH OFFICIALS IN HAMILTON, MADISON COUNTY: WITHLACOOCHEE RIVER WATER MEETS WATER QUALITY STANDARDS

The Florida Department of Health in Hamilton and Madison counties has lifted a precautionary health advisory issued on August 30. The City of Valdosta, Georgia reported a spill made up of a combination o f storm water and untreated sewage that overflowed into Sugar Creek, which flows into the Withlacoochee River.

Recent river water samples taken by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection indicate the river water meets surface water quality standards ensuring the public they may resume water-related activities.
